Status of the UNFICYP

In 1974, he occupation of 37% of Cyprus by Turkey resulted in the division of the island by the Attila line, a.k.a. as the green line. This line is very thin in Nicosia, where it can be as narrow as a small road but it can be much wider in non-built areas. The line area was provided by the Republic of Cyprus and is controlled only by UO troops.
The UN headquarters are located at the Nicosia International Airport which was abandonded after the war in 1974 and now can only be used by the United Nation Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Use of the flag in the United Nations bases

Only the UN flag can be seen in the line area.

Panayiotis Panayiotou, 25 November 2002

The UN Force would use the UN flag but might also fly their own national flag at their bases, and possibly on their vehicles (although the UN flag should have prominence), but these would only be for identification, not as a claim of sovereignty.
